The neighboring communities of Portageville and Senath gave Kennett and other Dunklin County neighbors a run for their money in the 2014 Delta Fair Parade contest recently. The Portageville club, Old Broads Plus One, took the parade's first place float honors, for the second year in a row. The float's theme, "The Archies," secured the group its $1,000 cash prize. The float featured working carnival rides and a balloon-popping game booth. The second place, $600 prize went to another Portageville group, the Portageville Red Hat Society, with its "Captain America Seen at the Delta Fair" theme, complete with costumed Captain America and sailor characters, a military truck and an airplane with rotating propellers. The third place, $450 prize went to the Senath Women's Club, with its "Hope Blooms at the Delta Fair" float, which featured a working fountain and floral decor. The fourth place, $350 prize went to KK's Little Sprouts of Senath, with a "Come Grow with Us at the Delta Fair" float that carried children from KK's Daycare Center, dressed in flower costumes. The float was covered in balloons crafted into the shapes of trees and a rainbow. The fifth place, $250 prize went to Visiting Nurse Association of Kennett, and a "VNA Rocks" float theme that featured riders dressed in sock hop attire.
