Man and woman arrested after drug investigation

BENTON -- A Sikeston area couple is in custody following a narcotics investigation by the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

James M. Woods, 59, is charged with the felonies of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Alesha K. Gonzalez, 33, is charged with the misdemeanors of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, Detective Jessica Martin recently began an investigation of drug activity at the residence in Sikeston and gathered enough information to obtain a search warrant. At approximately 11:54 a.m. Friday, Martin and other deputies including members of the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team served the warrant at the residence.
