CHARLESTON -- As far as Mississippi County is concerned, 2014 was a great year.

A public hearing for the county budget was held during the Mississippi County Commission's regular weekly meeting held Friday due to the New Year's Day holiday.

Last year "is probably the best the county has done in my memory," County Clerk Junior DeLay said, with revenues exceeding expenditures in four out of the county's five major funds.

The General Revenue Fund ended the year with a balance of $786,211.52, a net gain of $124,001.58, according to DeLay.

DeLay said a significant factor for this fund was that there were no transfers from General Revenue to the Law Enforcement Fund other than the amount originally budgeted, $375,000.

The Road and Bridge Fund ended the year with $281,299.24 which is an additional $79,312.78 over what it started the year with.

The ending balance of $14,434 in the Law Enforcement Fund is an increase of $11,325.19 over the fund's beginning balance for 2014.
