BENTON -- The announcement is not official yet, but the word is out: Scott County is going to need a new public administrator.
"I am going to retire," Pam Dirnberger, the current public administrator, advised the commissioners during the regular County Commission meeting Tuesday.
"I was hoping for March 1," Dirnberger said. She explained there are "a couple of things going on in probate" for which she will need to remain in office, pushing that date to "sometime in April."
"I wish you the best," said Jamie Burger, presiding commissioner, "and thank you for everything you've done for Scott County. I hate to see you leave: longevity is a plus."
The Scott County Democratic Central Committee has already scheduled a meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Scott County Courthouse to interview candidates for the position.
"Why are they doing that now when there isn't a vacancy yet?" County Clerk Rita Milam asked.
Dirnberger said they are trying to be ready so there isn't a long vacancy in the office, as there was in Mississippi County, which could create problems for those the office serves.
