The Senath-Hornersville Lady Lions hosted Portageville in a game that would determine the first place seed. The Lady Bulldogs went on spoil senior night by winning in convincing fashion, 63-35.

The Lady Bulldogs took the control of the game shortly after tip-off. Jill Kellams led Portageville by scoring 10 of their 19 first quarter points as the Lady Lions struggled to find an answer.

The second quarter was even worse for Senath-Hornersville. While Portageville matched the 19 points scored in the previous quarter, while the Lady Lions could only score 5.

Throughout the second half, Senath-Hornersville fared much better against the powerful Lady Bulldogs. Yet, it simply wasn't enough to overcome the deficit Portageville built in the first.

This means the Lady Bulldogs will enter the conference tournament in first place while Senath-Hornersville settles for second place.

"Winning the conference seed and hopefully the conference tournament have been our big goal all year. All the hard work paid off last Thursday night as we sealed the regular season conference by going undefeated in conference play this year," said head coach Kellye Fowler.

"The grills are really buying in and playing together now and they are having fun with it. We just have to keep this momentum and use it in the conference tournament we have coming up, and then take it into the districts as well."

"I could not be more proud of how the girls have worked and responded for me this year. I am blessed with a great group of girls," she added.

Portagevile will host Chaffee this Friday, Feb. 6 before competing in the Bootheel Conference Tournament starting Monday, Feb. 9.

The tournament starts on Monday the 9th in Portageville. Games will start at 4:30. "We have the one seed and get a bye on Monday night," said Fowler. The games on Monday begin at 4:30 with Senath vs Campbell, 6:00 Malden vs South Pem, 7:30 Caruthersville vs Hayti.

On Tuesday the winner of Senath/Campbell and Malden/South Pem play @ 6:00 and Portageville will play the winner of Cville/Hayti @ 7:30.

Thursday @ 6 is the JV championship game (only two jayvees in the tourney, Malden and Senath). The Varsity Championship game is at 7:30.
