PADUCAH, Ky. - The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.

According to the NWS, winter storm watch is no longer in effect, however, the advisory calls for snow, sleet and freezing rain from noon today through 6 a.m. Saturday.

"Snow and sleet will develop across the area by midday Friday," forecasters said. "The precipitation will intensify and transition to freezing rain Friday night. Temperatures will warm to above freezing by early Saturday."

The main impact to Southeast Missouri will be a combination of snow and sleet accumulations underneath a thin layer of ice.

Forecasters said this will create a period of very hazardous driving conditions, especially Friday evening. Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility.

The NWS said the region east of the Mississippi River could receive up to two inches of snow and sleet while the accumulation would be approximately a tenth of an inch along the Tennessee and Arkansas borders.
