CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston boys golf team took first place in a three-team match at the Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau Thursday.

The Bulldogs posted a team score of 174 squeak past Advance, who finished with a 178. Saxony Lutheran took third place with a 202.

Sikeston's Gabe Wheeler round of 38, three over par, was second best on the day as the Hronet's Brian Whitson best Wheeler by a shot with a round of 37.

Wheeler's teammate Clark Atchison shot a 39 to finish just one back of Wheeler and tow back of the lead. Blake Below and Drake Lawrence posted rounds of 46 and 51 respectively.

Not competing as a team, Kelly brought a pair of golfers. Jacob Riley shot a 47 and Ashton Beggs a 62.

Next up, the Bulldogs are at the SEMO Conference Tournament at the Fox Haven Country Club in Sikeston with a start time of 10 a.m.

SCOTT CITY -- A big eight-run rally in the fifth helped Scott City topped Kelly 12-6 on Thursday.

The Hawks (6-12) led 3-0 going into the third inning when a three-run outburst by the Rams (10-11) knotted the game. Scott City took the lead with a run in the fourth before their eight-run fifth gave them a game-high 12-3 advantage.

Kelly added three runs in the seventh, but couldn't close the gap.

Dakota Talley picked up the win with five innings of work, allowing on earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one.

SIKESTON -- Surrendering six runs in the final two innings, Scott County Central fell to Meadow Heights 6-4.

The Braves led 3-0 before two runs in the sixth by Meadow Hights made it a one-run game.

Scott Central added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, but Meadow Heights rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to take their first lead of the game.

Coltin Winter went 2 for 4 to lead the Braves, who fall to 3-5. Meadow heights improves to 5-7.

__Saxony Lutheran 5, Sikeston 0__

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs were shutout at home by Saxony Lutheran on Thursday 5-0 to fall below .500 on the season.

Grace Mirly led the Lady Crusaders with a hat-trick performance while Brianna Mueller and Tess Daniel. Mueller, Daniel and Laurel Mueller added an assist the cause.

Saxony keeper Raegan Wieser had eight saves in the win.

Sikeston falls to 7-8 while the Lady Crusaders improve to 13-2.

After nearly a week off, the Lady Bulldogs will be back in action Wednesday when they play Anna-Jonesboro, Ill., on the road at 4:30 p.m.

__Meadow Heights 11, SCC 1__

SIKESTON -- Scott County Central fell 11-1 to Meadow Heights in five innings via the mercy rule on Thursday.

Meadow heights was ahead 7-1 when a four run outburst in the top of the fourth set the mercy rule in effect.

__Sikeston 6, Oakville 3__

SIKESTON -- Rebounding from a loss to Marion, Ill., the day prior, the Sikeston Bulldogs tennis team picked up a big district win against Oakville on Thursday 6-3.

"Big win for us today against a district opponent," Sikeston head coach Russ Dial said. "When we display the level of focus we did between points today we are a formidable team in our district. Even the matches the lost today were hard fought, close matches.

"We're hoping to continue to get better."

Coby McMikle, Brett Johnson, Edward McClain and Jordan Wheatley all picked up singles wins against Oakville. Mark Jones and McMikle teamed up for a doubles win as did McClain and Wheatley.

On the junior varsity side, the Bulldogs won 3-0 thanks to wins from Colton Dodson and Anthony Le in singles play and a win from Dodson and Adam Smith in doubles competition.

Sikeston will participate in the Poplar Bluff Invitational on Saturday.
