Sikeston man arrested on drug charges
BENTON -- A Sikeston area man was arrested on drug possession charges over the weekend in Scott County.
Jeremy B. Pearson, 35, is charged with the class D felony of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and the class B misdemeanor of property damage.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Sheriff Walter said on Friday deputies responded to 140 Stone Drive in Sikeston for a delayed disturbance report. When deputies arrived, they were told Pearson caused a disturbance due to him believing he had an active warrant.
Once Pearson found out the Sheriff's Office was called, he left the residence on foot and slammed the front door as he left, causing the glass to break in the front door, according to a news release from Walter's office.
"Pearson was later located by the deputies hiding near a pump house west of the residence," Walter said. "He was detained and upon searching him incident to arrest, a syringe was located in Pearson's pocket. Pearson admitted the syringe was used to ingest methamphetamine."
The syringe had a clear liquid inside of it, which tested positive for methamphetamine, the sheriff said.
Pearson was arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail. Pearson was booked in the jail pending the filing of formal charges by the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney.
Pearson remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond is set by the court at $2,500 cash only.
