JEFFERSON CITY -- The Sikeston girls and Dexter's Makayla Waldner had a banner day during the finals of the Class 3 and 4 state track & field championships in Jefferson City Saturday.
Waldner took home a state championship in the Class 3 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.89 and was a combined .91 seconds away from winning two more state titles in the 100 hurdles and 200-meter dash.
She placed second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.44 -- just .19 seconds behind North Technical's Constance Jackson -- and was edged by champion Kamira Franklin of McCluer South-Berkeley by .72 seconds in the 200 after running a 25.92.
Behind Waldner's strong day, Dexter finished sixth in the overall team rankings with a total of 30 points.
In Class 4, Sikeston's team of Antravia Green, Alexis Boyd, Tyeshia Mitchell and Brandy Peet finished second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x200 relay events.
They finished the 4x100 with a time of 49.17 which was just slightly behind Raytown South's run of 48.79. Sikeston ran a 1:42.77 in the 4x200.
Green also finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.43.
After taking second in the triple jump on Friday, Sikeston junior Earnest Fobbs finished 13th in the long jump with a leap of 20-1 1/4.
