CHARLESTON - A Charleston man is accused of breaking into a residence and attempting to rape a woman.
Jeremy Rigney, 28, is charged with first degree burglary, first degree attempted rape, first degree elder abuse and felonious restraint.
According to Charleston Department of Public Safety Director Robert Hearnes, officers were notified at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday of a home invasion in the 100 block of W. Ashby St.
"The victim reported a male broke into her house and tried to rape her," Hearnes said in a news release. "She reported the suspect fled on foot and was able to provide a description."
An officer located a person, later identified as Rigney, matching the description a short time later near the residence and arrested him. Rigney is being held in the Mississippi County Jail on $500,000 bond.
