SIKESTON -- Last week's election results were accepted, and the Sikeston R-6 Board of Education reorganized Tuesday.
Board Secretary Bryan Nickell said during the April 5 municipal election, the following votes were received: John Graham, 736; Scott Crumpecker, 1,112; and Rebecca Steward, 1,213. These totals included both New Madrid County and Scott County votes.
The Board certified the results and reorganized. Jim Gleason was chosen as president; Matt Tanner as vice president; Nickell as board secretary; Lori Boardman as treasurer; and Cheryl White as assistant treasurer.
The Board then adjourned to its regular monthly meeting, which included awarding several bids.
The Board approved a resolution for bond refinancing following a presentation by Michelle Bock of Piper Jaffray in St. Louis.
"What we've talked about is a combination of redemption of outstanding bonds and a bond refinancing of the district's general obligation bonds by doing a private placement with banks, and we propose to solicit local banks and any other banks interested in giving proposals to do a refinancing of the district's outstanding bonds," Bock said.
Through the combination of the redemption and the refinancing, the hope is to achieve $150,000 to $160,000 in savings, Bock said.
"We would propose to submit those proposals out for banks this month and then come back to Board with results, and at that time if the savings are sufficient, then you would move forward and close the refinancing,"
