There was not a whole lot of action that the Portageville City Council last Monday night, April 4th. However there was a lot of discussion about Pump No. 6 and the water lines going to and from it. The Council approved to purchase a pump to replace the current wore out pump.

the pump is to be purchased from Clark & sons, LLC. total cost for labor, material, and equipment is $15,500.

Portageville Police Chief Ronnie Adams reported that Steve Pind has been hired to replace Chris Cooley. He resigned to go to work for a Sikeston insurance agent.

The Council is to meet on Thursday, April 14 to make final decisions on the new fiscal year budget. Mayor Floyd Simmons told fire Chief Bill Foster, that the Council had budgeted for two hand held radios for the fire Department.

The City is gearing up for the annual Spring Clean Up Week, set for April 25-29, and is wanted to remind everybody that pick ups only made once, on your regular trash day. If you're not sure of your pick up day, call City Hall. Items will not be picked up if put out late or on the wrong date. You may place items out a day before your pick up date but not later. Residents only, no businesses. Items must The trash collectors will not pick up tires, compressors or paint cans that have paint in them.

The Council also passed an ordinance to change a piece of property from a commercial lot into a residential lot. The ordinance reads, "An ordinance rezoning certain parcels from C-1, Commercial, to R-2, multi-family residential, lots 11 & 12, block 9, Portageville original town,except for the south 100 feet of lot 12, and the south 100 feet of lot 12, block 9, Portageville original town, in the City of Portageville, New Madrid County, Missouri.

The Council also voted to replace Candice Garmon to the Housing Authority Board to replace Angie Jones, who has decided to come off.

Additionally, the City of Portageville has agreed to help sponsor the DAEOC Headstart Program to secure a new building.

The City of Portageville will hold a public hearing on April 19, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the City Hall (301 E. Main St.) to discuss the City's submission of an application for the fiscal year FY 2016 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The City is interested in obtaining all citizens' input on the proposed community development project. The City needs as much local participating as possible in order to reflect the true desires of the community as a whole relating the proposed project application.

The state has established a maximum application request for each funding category. Activities that are eligible for fundĀ­ing include the improvement of public works, public facilities, housing rehabilitation and others allowed by law. At least 51 percent of the funds must be used to benefit low-and-moderate income persons. No displacement of persons will be proposed.

The City is proposing supporting the construction of an Early Childhood Educational facility in conjunction with Delta Area Economic Development Corporation. All citizens are encouraged to attend in order to comment on the proposed activities.

The next monthly City Council meeting is set for Monday, May 2.
