SIKESTON -- Patrons of the Sikeston R-6 School District who aren't able to attend Board of Education meetings are in luck.

The district now posts videos of school board meetings and work sessions in their entirety online.

"It's been extremely well received by the community," Sikeston R-6 Superintendent Tom Williams said.

Last month the district began recording and posting videos of its meetings. The purpose of posting videos by the district is so those in the community who are unable to attend can see the decisions and discussions taking place, Williams said.

"I wanted to inform our community about what's going on in our school system and not only the business aspect of it, but the recognition aspect of it and the informational side to keep them informed," Williams said.

Two years ago the district decided to improve upon its communications because that's what patrons wanted, Williams noted.

"I think -- through the videos we're producing -- it's one method to get the word out about our school system," he said. "It's not only that method. The newsletters and our social media -- whether it be Facebook or Twitter -- have been well received."

The district's visibility on social media has steadily increased since creating an official Facebook page in August and Twitter account in October 2010. Currently, the district's Facebook page has, 1,425 "likes" and its Twitter account has 823 followers.
