Sikeston's Sarah Ferrell tackles America's current fascination for tiny living spaces in new reality show, 'He Shed, She Shed'
SIKESTON -- Sarah Ferrell walks around a tiny space and sees big possibilities. A sliding glass door here, a deck there and soon Ferrell has created a she shed.
Sikeston's Ferrell is half of FYI Network's newest offering, "He Shed, She Shed." The show's third of six episodes will air at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Ferrell and her co-host Luke Barr are expanding on the popular trend of tiny homes with their show by transforming backyard sheds into living spaces. Barr tackles the he-shed, creating a man cave while Ferrell creates a female-based sanctuary, or she-shed.
Each episode of "He Shed, She Shed" follows two homeowners in the ultimate male vs. female backyard shed showdown -- as Barr and Ferrell design and build a unique he-shed and she-shed. The series also shows off existing sheds across the country and meets with the owners to learn about their inspiration in creating the unique outdoor space, according to FYI's website.
While Ferrell had created a single-episode pilot, "Small Town, Big Style," for FYI Network, the former Dexter resident said she was surprised when the production company called last summer to ask her to audition to be the co-host of "He Shed, She Shed."
"I told them I'm not sure I'm qualified to be a host," she said. "I kept asking: Are you sure? You want me?"
According to Ferrell, the audition, via Skype, included lots of crazy questions. She was then interviewed again with Barr to determine how they would perform together.
"We had so much fun," Ferrell recalled about that interview. "It fell into place so easily."
