SIKESTON -- The Sikeston City Council is currently accepting applications from residents interested in serving in an appointed capacity as a board or commission member.
The Council uses its boards and commissions to obtain citizen input on a wide variety of municipal issues.
With 17 boards and commissions, residents are offered an opportunity to obtain a working knowledge and provide input on practically every aspect of municipal government.
Residents interesting in participating are asked to submit a Resource Bank Application, available at City Hall and the Sikeston Public Library, and online at www.sikeston.org. Applications will be accepted until Aug. 31 with Council appointments being made in early September.
Positions are available on the following boards and commissions:
Board of Adjustments: This is a quasi-judicial body which makes rulings on zoning ordinance appeals. This board meets on an as-needed basis.
Board of Appeals: This board hears appeals on enforcement of the International Building Code, as adopted by the City. It also meets on an as-needed basis.
Board of Municipal Utilities Commission: This commission oversees general operations of the Board of Municipal Utilities: electric generation and distribution; water supply, treatment and distribution; and operation of the sanitary sewer system and wastewater treatment. It meets at 4 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
