BRANSON, Mo. - Eight Missouri Press Association awards were presented Saturday to Standard-Democrat publisher Michael Jensen during MPA's annual convention.

A story written by Jill Bock, "Can-do attitude: New Madrid Elementary custody rewards students," earned second place in the best feature category.

David Jenkins' photo, "No Rust - Sikeston's Juwon Kimble throws down a slam dunk" received third place honors for best sports photo. Receiving honorable mention as best sports photo was Jenkins' photo, "Dominance - Sikeston's Fred Thatch goes up for a shot."

The newspaper's content and design was recognized in several categories. The Standard Democrat earned second place for Best Editorial Pages and third place for best local business coverage, best overall design and best front page. The Standard-Democrat's coverage of the 2015 fire at Santie Oil also received honorable mention honors in the category of best photo package.
