EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. - A convicted felon is back in jail.

Herman A. Duty, 52, of East Prairie will be arraigned Wednesday on felony charges of possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon (for the possession of a weapon and of a felony controlled substance) and the misdemeanor of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Cory Hutcheson, Sergeant Ryan Hill noticed a suspicious person, later identified as Duty, walking around in East Prairie last weekend. Duty appeared to be under the influence of stimulants, according to the officer.

"When asked, Duty denied having anything illegal on his person but a consensual check of his pockets led to the seizure of methamphetamine and a firearm," Hutcheson said in a news release.

Duty was arrested and is being held in the Mississippi County Detention Center with a bond set at $50,000.

The Sheriff noted that Duty is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction.
