EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. - Two East Prairie residents are accused of burglarizing a home, one while armed with a hatchet.

Terry Dean, 46, and Shawna Johnson, 40, are each charged with first degree burglary, domestic assault and child abuse or neglect of a child with bond set at $25,000 each. According to online court records, they are scheduled for arraignment today before Judge S. Rob Barker.

The East Prairie Police Department reported officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of Folk Street on Saturday following a report of a disturbance. When officers arrived they learned that residence was burglarized by Dean and Johnson. At the time, Dean was reportedly armed with a hatchet.

"Officers went to Mr. Dean's residence to make contact. Once they arrived due to a domestic in progress and learning that there were two children inside the home, they forcefully entered the home at this time," according to the Department's news release.

Dean and Johnson were taken into custody.

Both juveniles were safe and unharmed, however, police reported the two juveniles had been made to stay inside the home all day without being fed and were told not to answer the door.

The following day officers returned to the residence to retrieve items and about a pound of marijuana was found, according to the report. Drug charges are pending at this time.
