The Teen Challenge International of Mid-America (TCIMA) Choir will be featured at First Church of God in Portageville at 500 King Ave, on Sunday, Aug.13 at 10:30 a.m.
Their program will include contemporary and traditional gospel music, as well as testimonies of how they found their way out of drug abuse and other life-controlling problems.
Formed in March of 1973, the Teen Challenge International of Mid-America Choir has appeared at churches of many denominations, high school assemblies, civic events, outdoor venues, and state and national gatherings throughout the United States and Canada. This men's choral ensemble is currently directed by John W. Bechtel II, who is an alumnus (2008) of the program.
Choir members are presently students at a 10-month regional Teen Challenge four miles north of Cape Girardeau, MO. Teen Challenge is a faith-based recovery program that emphasizes Christian growth and development. Founded by David Wilkerson and now over 50 years in existence, Teen Challenge is hailed as the best program to get a person off drugs, according to a U. S. Government-funded study directed by Catherine Hess, M. D., and conducted by the National Opinion and Research Center.
