PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo. -- A man suspected of domestic assault who threatened a Bootheel farmer ended up with a gunshot wound Wednesday.
According to a release from Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, the Sheriff's office received a call of a domestic assault on Route NN near the Arkansas state line at 12:51 p.m. Wednesday. The caller reported a male suspect beating a female that occurred in Dunklin County.
Before deputies could arrive, a second call came in advising that a male subject had stopped the assault and taken the female with him for her safety. Dunklin County deputies were the first on the scene and Pemiscot County 911 received another call from the subject that had taken the female to his farm shop for safety until deputies could arrive.
While on the phone with 911, the suspect showed up and began cursing and threatening the farmer and the female with bodily harm. The suspect had one hand behind his back during this time and the farmer instructed the suspect to leave his property.
The female told the farmer the suspect had a gun earlier, and the suspect continued to approach the couple in a threatening manner. The farmer told the suspect to show his hands and get off the property or he would be shot.
The suspect continued to approach them and stated, "you ain't gonna shoot me." The farmer told deputies that he was afraid the suspect had a gun and was in fear of his and the victim's life and proceeded to shoot the suspect in the leg.
The victim was flown to a Jonesboro, Ark., hospital for treatment. The investigation continues by the Pemiscot and Dunklin County Sheriff's offices.
