CHARLESTON, Mo. - Sandra Ashley Harvey, 72, a resident of Charleston, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at DeGreef Hospice House in St. Louis.

She was born July 4, 1944, in Charleston to James Lewis and Opal R. Williams Ashley, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Charleston High School and Draughon Business College in Memphis, Tenn. Following extensive traveling both stateside and abroad, she returned to Charleston in 1972 where she worked as a secretary in the Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney's office and later the Mississippi County Clerk's office. She was a small business entrepreneur having owned and operated a laundromat, a satellite dish company, and marketing her husband's patented inventions. A real estate broker, she owned, managed and supervised renovation projects for her rental properties. In addition to her professional responsibilities she was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Charleston, and had attended the United Methodist Church. Her civic involvements and achievements included: member and former president of the Charleston High School Band Boosters Club, member of Charleston Chamber of Commerce, member serving in various elected offices of the former Charleston Business and Professional Women's Club, member of the Charleston Lion's Club serving in various elected positions including former president in 2008-2009, 2013-2014 and current president. She was honored as the 2003 Charleston Woman of the Year, was the recipient of the 2007-2008 Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the International Lion's Club for dedicated humanitarian services, and chosen as Charleston's Lion of the Year in 2010.

She was first married to Richard Dale Stanley. In 1985 she married James A. Harvey, who preceded her in death in 2011.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard Dale II and Nancy Stanley of Pittsburg, Penn., and Rodney and Heather Stanley of St. Louis; one daughter and one son-in-law, Col. Jami and Doug Shawley of Annandale, Va.; two brothers, James E. Ashley of Dandridge, Tenn., and Alvin Monroe "Pod" Ashley of Sparta, Ill.; two sisters, Sharon Brewer of Okmulgee, Okla., and Tracy Pendergrass of Fredericktown; also six grandchildren, Second Lt. Sarah Feuerborn, Jack Stanley, Nicholas Shawley, Gianna Shawley, Owen Stanley and Megan Stanley.

Visitation will be from noon Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Charleston, will officiate.
