EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- John William Elkins, 81, died Nov. 22, 2016, at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Sept. 28, 1935, in Todd County, Ky., to the late William Harrison and Lena Siggers Elkins, he had lived in East Prairie for over 50 years where he attended the First General Baptist Church and owned his own lawn care service. Prior to moving to East Prairie, he had lived in the Chicago area where he was employed in fabrication and welding.
On June 3, 1970, he married Jessie Alice Love, who preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 1992.
He was also preceded in death a stepson, Billy Gene Love; four brothers, William Elkins, Carroll Elkins, Paul Edward Elkins and Robert Allen Elkins; and one infant brother and one infant sister.
Surviving are two brothers, Thomas Elkins of Bluff Springs, Ky., and Wayne Elkins of Dawson Springs, Ky.; and two sisters, Helen Henderson of Fearsville, Ky., and Elizabeth Blaylock of Elkton, Ky.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Graveside services will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with Martin Lucas officiating.
