WYATT, Mo. -- Marion Devodry Oakley, 89, died Dec. 7, 2016, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Born Feb. 4, 1927, in Steele, to the late Walter and Allie Lessie Lee Ingould Oakley, he had lived in Imperial, Calif., where he was employed with JC Penney Co. for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and owned and operated Oakley Grocery in Wyatt. He was a member of the Mississippi County Bowlers, the SEMO Bowling League and a pitcher for area fast-pitch softball teams.
On May 10, 1944, in Blytheville, Ark., he married Wanda Colleen Tompkins, who preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2010.
He was also preceded in death by: one sister, Shirley Craigo; two brothers, Billy Ray Oakley and Paul Wayne Oakley; one son-in-law, Daniel Lee Johnson; and one great-granddaughter, Lula Colleen Williams.
Surviving are four children, Marian Colen "Sissy" (Jim) Presson of Charleston, Steven Wayne (Linda) Oakley of Sikeston, Sandra Kay Johnson of Wyatt, and Stanley Walter (Susan) Oakley of Scott City; one sister, Dorothy Cargill of Collierville, Tenn.;13 grandchildren, and a number of great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the McMikle Funeral Home, where service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. Don Merideth of Charleston will officiate.
Burial with full military rites provided by the Missouri Military Honor Guard will follow at the IOOF Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hartwick, Jeff Presson, Jim Presson Jr., Bernard Davis, Riley Fitzgerald Sr., Harry Oakley, Clay Eaves and Jeremy Riggs.
