LILBOURN, Mo. - Gussie Lee Mead, 92, died Jan. 18, 2017, at the Golden Living Center in New Madrid. LILBOURN, Mo. - Gussie Lee Mead, 92, died Jan. 18, 2017, at the Golden Living Center in New Madrid.

Born Aug. 3, 1924, in Augusta, Ark., to the late Essie Ida Hill Mead and Clarence Mead, he was a farmer for many, many years. In addition to farming, he drove trucks and combines and eventually worked for the University of Missouri Extension Center in Portageville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Catron and he was also a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 34 in Catron. He served in the United States Army.

Survivors include: three sons, Albert Charles Whitfield of Chicago, Albert Mead of Howardville and Ervin Mead of Lilbourn; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris Jean Pope of Howardville, Pauletta and Raymond Bledsoe of New Madrid and Gloria and Ronald Carter of Lilbourn; and 37 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at noon Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Lilbourn. Darryl Minor, pastor, will officiate and the Rev. Robert Anderson will assist.

Interment will follow in Simmon's Park Cemetery in Catron with full military honors with the Williams Funeral Home of Howardville in charge of arrangements.
