SIKESTON - Charlie Green, Jr., 76, died Sept. 2, 2016, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Sept. 20, 1939, in Jaywye to the late Charlie and Alberta Young Green.
He served his country in the United States Army, and he received an honorable discharge.
He was united in holy matrimony to Opal Patricia Reed on October 5, 1963.
In 1967, he answered the call to ministry. He returned back home from St. Louis in 1974 to pastor Green Memorial Church of God in Christ after the death of his father. In March 1994, he was recognized and appointed as Jurisdictional Prelate of the Missouri Southeast Third Jurisdiction.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mother Opal P. Green, four sons and two daughters-in-law, Charlie Green III of Sikeston, Anthony G. Green (Vanissa) and Andrew M. Green of Atlanta and Christopher P. Green (LaShonda) of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Janet S. Green of Memphis; six brothers, Nathaniel Green of Sikeston, Jonathan Green of St. Louis, Edward Green, Derrick Green and Michael Green all of Kansas City, and James Green of Atlanta; five sisters, Almeda Yancey, Dorothy Sanders and Juanita Andrews of St. Louis, Pearl Newsome and Mary Marshall of Kansas City; a special mother-in-law, Illaree Reed Triplett; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, faithful members of Green Memorial and Missouri Southeast Third Jurisdiction, and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Cape First of Sikeston with a memorial celebration beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday at Green Memorial Church of God in Christ in Sikeston. The official funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Green Memorial Church of God in Christ with Bishop Jerry Macklin, second assistant to presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake of the Church of God in Christ, General Board Member officiating.
Interment will follow in Sikeston Memorial Park with full military honors with the Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston in charge of arrangements.
