FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Douglas Bernhardt Johnson, of Farmington and formerly of Sikeston, passed away surrounded by his loving family at Parkland Health Care Center on July 18, 2017, at the age of 70.

He was born in Lawrence, Kan., on Dec. 4, 1946, to the late Dr. Howard Bernhardt Johnson and Barbara Louise (Moore) Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Abhram Moore Johnson.

A 1965 graduate of Sikeston High School, "Doug" went on to SEMO where he graduated in 1970. In 1972 he received his master's in biology from Tennessee Tech.

In January of 1969 he married Teresa Hamelmann, and they lived in Perryville where Doug worked as a livestock buyer for 22 years before going to work in Sikeston as a bank vice-president in agriculture. An avid outdoorsman, Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. He was very artistic, and in his spare time, he liked working with wood carving and drawing. In spite of a spinal cord injury in 2001, he bravely continued to enjoy life and his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Teresa Jane Johnson. Also surviving are his two sons, Dr. Benjamin Bernhardt Johnson of Perryville and Dr. Douglas Christian (Linda) Johnson of Pittsburg, Pa.; six grandchildren, Camille, Phillip, Emma, Gage, Gavan and Lakyn; a brother, Paul (Donna) Johnson of Sikeston; a sister, Diana (Larry) Boston of Maumelle, Ark.; cousins, Joe (Joy) Baker, Mary (David) Fehrmann and Debbie Naeter; nieces and nephews, Shawdi Williams, Emily Wallace, Addi Winchester, Isaac Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Holly Suarez, Dr. Gil Clinton and Lt. Bill Clinton.

A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Perryville with the Rev. Milton Ryan as Celebrant.

Cozean Memorial Chapel and Crematory in Farmington is in charge of arrangements.
