BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- An inmate who escaped from the Mississippi County Detention Center is back in custody and facing additional charges.

Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner reported Edward Lusk, 49, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday following a brief foot pursuit.

Hefner credited "a lot of hard investigative work" led to Lusk's recapture.

He said officers were aware of Lusk's associates and were on the lookout for him when he was spotted at an old house east of Dexter off Highway 60. As officers approached the residence, Lusk fled out the back door and a foot pursuit began, according to the Sheriff.

After approximately a mile, the inmate was overtaken by officers and arrested. Hefner said one deputy was injured during the arrest and was checked by a doctor.

Additional charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a law enforcement officer may be filed against Lusk, Hefner said.

Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore reported Lusk is charged with escape from custody for his escape from the Mississippi County Detention Center at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday.

Officials reported Lusk gained access to a utility area within the detention center. From there he was able to reach the roof of the facility and escape. Also, Moore said, another person will be charged with aiding Lusk's escape.

Lusk was charged Aug. 24 with seven counts of second degree burglary, nine counts of property damage, one count of felony theft/ stealing; three counts of misdemeanor theft/ stealing; one count of attempted burglary, one count of second degree arson and one count of resisting arrest, according to online court records. Currently, he is being held in the Stoddard County Jail.
