A Sikeston Parks and Recreation Department employee prepares a ball field at the Sikeston Sports Complex. Thanks to the passage of a sales tax by Sikeston residents, the city's parks and its streets will see a boost in funding in the Fiscal Year 2018 budget. The Capital Improvements budget proposed spending an additional $150,000 for streets and alley improvements in addition to the work already approved for the summer street program while the parks budget includes fundings for infield renovations for two fields, lights for two fields, two new backstops and scoreboards for two baseball fields, the high school softball field and the high school soccer field. The next budget public hearing is slated for 11:30 a.m. May 22.
