SIKESTON -- A Sikeston man faces multiple charges after attempting to flee law enforcement officers.
Mark Anthony Swanson, 23, of Sikeston is charged with felony first degree property damage, felony resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeing and creating a substance risk of serious injury or death to any person; two counts of misdemeanor fourth degree assault; misdemeanor failing to yield to an emergency vehicle sounding siren and displaying red/blue lights; and misdemeanor first offense driving while revoked/suspended, according to online court records.
At 1:04 p.m. Wednesday, an officer with Sikeston Department of Public Safety witnessed what appeared to be a disturbance at West Murray Lane and Carroll Street, and as the officer got out to speak with the motorist, the car fled the scene and a chase ensued, according to DPS reports. The pursuit traveled down Murray Lane before the vehicle was stopped between School and Scott Streets.
The driver, who was later identified as Swanson, reportedly wouldn't get out of the vehicle. As the officers tried to get him out of the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated and struck the front bumper of one of the patrol cars.
Swanson was arrested and taken into custody. In addition to the new charges in Scott County, Swanson also had warrants out of Scott and Stoddard counties.
Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety. As of Friday, he remained in the Scott County Jail.
