SIKESTON -- A fire claimed the life of a Sikeston man early Tuesday in Sikeston.

At 2:06 a.m. officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety's Fire Division responded to a structure fire at 114 Andrea St. in Sikeston, according to Lt. Austin C. Henley with Sikeston DPS.

"When fire crews arrived they found the residence had fire coming from the roof area, Henley said. "Fire crews were concerned that there may be occupants still inside due to the time of the night and vehicles in the driveway."

Fire crews made entry and encountered heavy fire and smoke in the residence. After making entry, they found a body in a bedroom of the residence. This person was identified as the resident, 63-year-old Dennis Mooneyhan.

Personnel were on the scene until 6:54 a.m., extinguishing and investigating the fire, Henley said. The Missouri State Fire Marshal's office, Scott County Coroner and Sikeston DPS detectives investigated the fire scene.

According to investigators, the fire appeared to have started in the victim's bedroom. No foul play is suspected, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
