SIKESTON — Sharon Merideth, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Delta South in Sikeston.
She was born July 22, 1940, in Webster Springs, W. Va., to the late Orville and Edith Lorrane (Brewer) Hammon.
After graduating from High School in Elkview, W. Va, Sharon was a member of the United States Women’s Army Corps for three years, achieving the rank of Specialist Fourth Class as a medical corpsman.
On April 16, 1961, she married Ira M. Merideth who preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2002. She became a registered nurse with degrees from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau and Maryville College in St. Louis.
Sharon was employed for 22 years as the director of infection control at Missouri Delta Community Medical Center, leaving as director of safety and infection control. She was later employed by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as a senior epidemiologist until her retirement in 2005.
Survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Libby Merideth, Tim and Melissa Merideth and Ron and Jacquelyn Merideth all of Sikeston; one brother, Robert Hammon of Kerrville, Texas; six grandchildren, Ryan Merideth, Ross Merideth, Jessica Merideth, Connor Merideth, Robyn Merideth and Jace Merideth; five stepgrandchildren, Bryant Uthoff, Christopher Uthoff, Heather Couch, Madeline Myer and Sydney Davis; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Hammon.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, April 21 from 11 a.m. until time of services at noon at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston with the Rev. Jennifer Bell Moxley, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
