BENTON, Mo. — State Rep. Holly Rehder was one of six legislators across the state honored Thursday with the County Advocate Award from the County Commissioners Association of Missouri.

Rehder, who represents portions of Scott and Mississippi Counties, was presented a plaque in recognition of her leadership and her commitment to improving county government operations and to strengthen the local government/state partnership.

Scott County Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger, who spoke on behalf of the commissioners, said Rehder’s service coming into office has always been responsive whenever the commission has reached out to her.

“Rep. Rehder has called me on several occasions to discuss legislation that could possibly affect county government, and I have reached out to her on numerous occasions voicing our concerns on legislation, and has always stayed in touch,” Burger said. “Her work on the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, I feel, brought light and education to people all over Missouri and is helping to save lives and get Missouri state legislators on board to a problem that each and everyone of us has been touched by.

He continued: “Rep. Rehder, we ask as we enter into 2019, that you continue to give thought when addressing legislation that has an impact on county governments, whether it is pro or con, as we know you will.”

The CCAM board of directors voted in August to honor the lawmakers who have truly attempted to advance primary county bills, even though some did not make it through the legislative process.

The CCAM said Rehder worked to repeal prevailing wage last session. Repealing prevailing wage will save Missouri counties an exorbitant amount of funds from their already stressed budgets. While a total repeal failed in the Senate, their efforts in the House are appreciated, the CCAM said in a news release.

The CCAM noted the legislators were honored not only for the most recently concluded 2018 session of the General Assembly but also for work done in the past few years.

On hand for Thursday’s occasion were Rehder’s daughter, Raychel Griswell and her fiance, Kyle Jarrett; Scott County First District Commissioner Dennis Ziegenhorn and Second District Commissioner Donnie Kiefer; Cape County Presiding Commissioner Clint Tracy, First District Associate Commissioner Paul Koeper and Second District Associate Commissioner Charles Herbst; New Madrid County Presiding Commissioner Mark Baker, First District Associate Commissioner Bobby Aycock and Second District Associate Commissioner Don Day; and Scott County elected officials: Clerk Rita Milam, Sheriff Wes Drury and Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd, Collector Mark Hensley and Assessor Teresa Houchin.

“She does an excellent job,” New Madrid County Associate Commissioner Bobby Aycock said of Rehder. “She has always been attentive to anything we ask and she’s a pleasure to work with.”

Rehder said she was both shocked and surprised to learn she received the award. She said she appreciated all who were present at the recognition, and it was kind of the New Madrid County and Cape County commissioners to attend.

“It’s my pleasure and an honor to be able to serve,” said Rehder, who will enter her fourth and final two-year term in 2019. “I want to be sure when I’m done, that I’ve done some really good things for the state.”
