DEXTER, Mo. — James Everett Long, a resident of Dexter, was born on Feb. 8, 1936, in Essex, to the late Russell E. Long and Delours Sherwood Long and departed this life on Nov. 10, 2018, in Dexter at the age of 82 years.
On Sept. 17, 1997, he was united in marriage to Joyce McFarland Carroll in Bloomfield. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter.
Jim was a talented man who pursued several careers including farming, business, and serving for many years as the Maintenance Supervisor at the Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. During his life, his hobbies included aviation, hunting, and spending time with his granddaughter, Olivia.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; and three children, Lt. Col. James E. Long Jr. USAF Ret., and Kristi Long Williams and husband Mike, and Dara Snider Kotzbauer and husband Garry; two stepsons Brian Carroll and wife Tarah and Dustin Carroll; his grandchildren, Olivia Carroll, Lt. Cmdr. Sarah E. Sparks USN, Capt. Rachel M. Long USAF, Jacob Williams, Tech. Sgt. Lucas E. Snider USAF and wife Keeli, Chelsey Snider Mangus and husband Tyler; and five great-grandchildren, Layla and Collin Snider, Aubrey Seiter, Jude Mangus and Elle Sparks. He is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Locke of Poplar Bluff and Linda Kay Collier of Dexter, and by many other family members and friends..
Friends may call the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon. Services will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov.14, 2018 at noon with the Rev. Ron Beaton officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
