JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Rep. Holly Rehder this week announced that Gary “Bo” Ozment of Sikeston was named as one of the recipients of Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe’s Senior Service Awards.

Ozment is one of more than 70 seniors from around the state who were honored for their activism within the community. Rehder, who nominated Ozment for the award, attended a special ceremony at the State Capitol to honor Ozment and the other outstanding seniors.

“We are so incredibly blessed to have someone as amazing as Bo Ozment in our community. He is a natural born leader and someone who for decades has selflessly offered his help to young people and to anyone in need. I am so thankful for the volunteer work he has done and extremely excited that Lt. Gov. Kehoe honored his work with a Senior Service Award,” said Rehder, R-Sikeston.

First created in 2005, the Lieutenant Governor’s Service Award acknowledges senior citizens who provide their local communities with at least 40 hours of community service per year. Recipients are individuals who epitomize the values of giving, being a good neighbor, and commitment and service to others. Lt. Gov. Kehoe presented Ozment with the award during a ceremony at the State Capitol on May 6.

In receiving the award, Ozment was recognized for his faithful and dependable service as a contributing member of the community. Ozment played a key role in supporting little league baseball in Sikeston. He also assisted in teaching the hunter safety course to the young people of Sikeston. Additionally, He is an active member of the Sikeston Elks Club where he was responsible for the club’s scholarship program for 25 years, and where he has been active in helping to run the club’s weekly Bingo program.

Ozment has also spent the last 8 years as an active member of VFW Post 3714 where he serves as treasurer. He also has been on the Sikeston Planning and Zoning Commission for the past 18 years and now serves as chairman of the commission.

A Vietnam veteran, Ozment also volunteered his time and efforts to help with the Vietnam Moving Wall when it was in Sikeston in 1991 and again in 2010.

In addition to receiving the Senior Service Award from Lt. Gov. Kehoe, Ozment was presented with an official House Courtesy Resolution by Rep. Rehder. The resolution recognizes Ozment for his outstanding community service.
