CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. — The Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug And Crime Control are conducting an investigation in Braggadocio where one man has died of a gunshot wound.

Pemiscot County 911 received a call at 9:47 p.m. Sunday from a female advising she had shot her boyfriend during a domestic altercation, according to Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell. Deputies arrived on the scene to find a 28-year-old Derek McCoy had been shot in his upper left leg with a 20-gauge shotgun.

The female was administering first aid upon deputies’ arrival, the sheriff said. She advised there had been a domestic altercation earlier with McCoy assaulting her; he left the residence and she thought he had left, and she locked the door, Greenwell said.

“A short time later, he began beating on the door and yelling at her to let him in. She refused and he kicked the door in, as he approached her, she fired one shot striking him in the leg,” Greenwell said.

The victim was flown to The MED in Memphis, Tenn., where he died.

“All reports will be forwarded to the Pemiscot County prosecutor to be determined if any charges will be filed,” Greenwell said.
