SIKESTON — The Scott County Central FBLA (high school and middle level) hosted a mobile food pantry on Nov. 21 in the old gym at the school. The pantry was a huge success with over 100 families showing up to get a box of food, according to FBLA adviser Pamela Glasener.

“I am so glad we are able to host these mobile pantries to help our students and community members,” Glasener said. “With school being out for the entire week of Thanksgiving, it makes it hard for families who rely on their children eating meals at school. This was a way for us to be able to provide for those students.”

The SCC FBLA groups have been working all year to raise the funds needed to host multiple mobile pantries this school year, she said. The original goal was to raise enough money to host a mobile pantry before Thanksgiving and one before Christmas.

Thanks to an anonymous donor who wanted to pay the entire cost for the Thanksgiving pantry, the goal is half met, Glasener said.

The cost for a mobile pantry is $750, and the FBLA has over half the amount needed for another pantry thanks to a donation of $375 from the SCC PTO. If anyone would like to donate to help cover the cost of a mobile pantry before Christmas, please email Glasener, at pglasener@scottcentral.k12.mo.us or call at 573-471-2001. If funding is received, we would love to host more mobile pantries for our students and community members.
