Lois Bond

SIKESTON — Lois Beatrice Bond, 91, of Sikeston, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at the Southgate Living Center of Caruthersville.

She was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Advance, daughter of Manley and Irene Talent Long. 

She married Glen Bond on Dec. 27, 1945, at Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2004.

Lois graduated from Gray Ridge High School and Southeast Missouri State University with a master’s degree in elementary education. She taught 30 years at Vanduser and Sikeston Schools and was dearly loved by her students. She served as president of the Sikeston Teachers Association and a volunteer of other community organizations.

Lois was very active in the First Church of the Nazarene in Sikeston. She participated in a mission trip to Ecuador where she cooked for the local population and the mission workers. 

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Manley Long, Irene Talent Long, stepmother Caddie Long and husband Glen Bond. 

Survivors include: a son, Larry Bond of Caruthersville; daughter-in-law, Betty Bond of Caruthersville; grandson, Eric Bond of Caruthersville; three sisters, Joyce Brady of Trilla, Ill., Delores Woodford of Augusta, Wis., and Faye Dennison of Lee's Summit; and two brothers, Maurice Long of Kankakee, Ill., and Paul Long of Naples, Fla.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 27 with funeral service following at noon at the Sikeston First Church Of The Nazarene. The Rev. Richard Stout will be officiating.

Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
