Scott County Sheriff's Office issues statement

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

The following is a statement from the Scott County Sheriff's Office released Tuesday afternoon:

In response to the Coronavirus, COVID-19, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office will be modifying its law enforcement response and business practices.

Starting on March 18, 2020 until further notice:

For non-emergency calls, a deputy will be assigned to take your report over the telephone instead of a physical response. For example, calls for crimes that already occurred, no suspect present, and there is no immediate threat of personal safety.

Deputies will still respond to emergency calls where a crime is in progress and when personal safety is in danger. The citizens of Scott County are encouraged to call into the Sheriff’s Office instead of physically coming to the Sheriff’s Office. The phone number to the Sheriff’s Office is 573-545-3525 / 573-471-3530 for non-emergencies. Please still call 911 for emergency services.

We also encourage the public to tell our dispatchers if they believe they or someone else at the scene or residence are experiencing flu or COVID-19 symptoms, so the First Responders can take the appropriate precautions when responding.

Secondly, the business office of the Sheriff’s Office will be closed to the general public. If you are in need of a Concealed Carry Permit (CCW) or to complete sex offender registration call the Sheriff’s Office at the number above to make an appointment M-F 8:00 am-4:30 pm. The front doors will be locked so you will need to press the door bell and you will be assisted if you have an appointment.

Our Sheriff’s Office will also be suspending group tours, public meetings, and any non-criminal fingerprinting services.

Lastly, all jail visits will be suspended until further notice except for legal counsel purposes. Anyone who needs to place funds on an inmate commissary is encouraged to use the website: https://orders.tigercommissary.com/services/ or phone number, Toll Free: 877-844-3726, instead of using the kiosk in the jail lobby.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience. We feel this is the best course action for the health and well-being of our staff, inmates, and citizens of Scott County.
