Rodeo entertainment announced for 2020
SIKESTON — Entertainment, and events for the 68th Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo were announced Friday, by 2020 Rodeo Chairman Travis Deere.
The four-night event goes from Aug. 5-8 at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Grounds. Bullfighting, from Bull Fighters Only, takes center-stage on Thursday and Friday. Five, 60-second rounds of action take place each night, with a winner decided after the event on Friday.
Wednesday will once again be Sikeston Community Night. The night honors traditions, while also highlighting the winners of the local Stampede Week competition.
Chris Lane closes out the Wednesday portion of the Rodeo with the first night of entertainment.
Lane earned a nomination for Best New County Artist by iHeartRadio Music Awards and New Male Vocalist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards — both in 2017.
“Chris Lane has made big waves in the music industry the past few years,” said Deere in a press release. “We’re glad to have the opportunity to bring the breakout country artist to our Sikeston Rodeo fans.”
Some of Lane’s top songs include “Fix,” “Take Back Home Girl,” “I Don’t Know About You,” and his new single “Big, Big Plans.”
On Thursday night, Waldron, Arkansas’ Ashley McBryde, takes the stage.
In the past two years, McBryde has garnered multiple honors. She won New Female Vocalist of the Year and earned a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year, at the Academy of Country Music Awards; won the Breakthrough Video of the Year for her song, “Girl Goin’ Nowhere,” at the CMT Music Awards; won New Artist of the Year at the County Music Association Awards, and earned a nomination for Best Country Album, on “Girl Going Nowhere,” at the Grammy Awards and Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program at the Daytime Emmy Awards.
So far this year, McBryde earned a nomination for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance, at the Grammy Awards, for her top track.
“Ashley McBryde is a vocal powerhouse,” said Deere in a press release. “Her music covers a variety of genres and has a really unique sound.”
After the final night of bullfighting on Friday, a familiar face will perform at the Rodeo.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame duo ZZ Top takes the stage. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004, the pair has well-known songs, “Legs,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Rough Boy.” They have earned awards for Best Group Video, Best Direction, and Best Art Direction from the Video Music Awards.
“ZZ Top are rock and roll legends,” said Deere in a press release. “Their music is instantly recognizable, and their concert is sure to be an unforgettable experience for the 2020 Rodeo season.”
Lastly, on Saturday, the Rodeo continues its partnership with the House of Refuge. The Jaycees will take a stand against domestic violence by wearing purple shirts, and urge everyone in attendance to do the same.
Closing out the Rodeo will be Rogers, Arkansas native Joe Nichols. Nichols' notable hits include “Brokenheartsville,” “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” “Gimme That Girl,” “Sunny and 75,” and “Yeah.”
“Joe Nichols is a classic country artist,” said Deere in a press release. “He has a lot of great songs that will get you on your feet and make you sing along. He’s an all-around class-act performer, and we are excited that he’ll be at the Rodeo this year.”
