CHARLESTON, Mo. —L. A. Green, 71, died March 15, 2020, at his home.

Born June 22, 1948, in Widener, Arkansas, son of the late Elisha and Clotean Gilbert Green, he was a 1966 graduate of Lincoln Senior High School in Forrest City, Arkansas. In 1968, he entered the United States Army, where he served his country actively until 1971 and trained to be a switchboard operator. He also obtained the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Dev 60 Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and O/S Bar 2nd Award. He received an honorable discharge and served in the Army Reserve until March 17, 1974. He was of the Christian belief and had attended White Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Widener. He later become a deacon at New Light Church in Chicago.He was a truck driver, and he also sold insurance for Western and Southern Life Insurance in Chicago.

On March 27, 1969, in Chicago, he married Martha Clemons, who preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his one son, Ondray Green; two brothers, Earl Brookin and Elisha Green Jr.; and one sister, Beverly Green.

Survivors include: three brothers, Levoy Green of Memphis, Tennessee, Frederick Green of Millington, Tennessee, and David Green of West Memphis, Arkansas; two sisters, Shirley Jones of Chicago and Patricia Peacock of Palestine, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Williams Green of Chicago; and two grandsons.

Visitation is from noon until service time at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with Arthur Cassell, pastor, officiating and his nephew, Charles Browning, eulogizing. Burial with full military honor will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
