Sikeston R-6 extends dismissal through May 1

Friday, April 3, 2020

SIKESTON — Sikeston R-6 School District announced Friday school buildings will remain closed through May 1.

Sikeston R-6 Superintendent Dr. Tony Robinson said the extended dismissal is due to extended social distancing guidelines sent by President Donald Trump and the stay-at-home order from Scott County and its municipalities.

“We will reevaluate the reopening of buildings closer to this date. AltSernative learning instruction will continue through this date as well,” Robinson said.

The district has been given permission to continue feeding its students. They will continue bus stop distributions through April 9. Sikeston R-6 is closed April 10 and April 13 due to Good Friday and Easter break, the superintendent said. The BackPack meals that the Bulldog Pantry has been providing each week will go out on buses on Wednesday.

“We do intend on providing extra meals on the Thursday drop off as well,” Robinson said.
