Investigation underway after female’s body found in Scott County

BENTON, Mo. — An investigation is underway after a woman’s body was found in a ditch Monday morning in Scott County.

According to Scott County Sheriff Wes Drury, at 10:39 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to County Road 266 outside of Chaffee and Oran to the report of a female body lying in the ditch.

The SEMO Major Case Squad has been activated, Drury said. An autopsy on the middle-aged female, whose identity has not been released, is scheduled for later in the week, and the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff said.
