Virginia Nelson

SIKESTON – Virginia June Nelson, age 90, passed away Oct. 26, 2020, at Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston.

Born Dec. 11, 1929, in Sikeston, daughter of the late Homer Herman and Lue Vanover Grimes, Virginia was a member of North Acres General Baptist Church and worked as a Caseworker for the State of Missouri Regional Center before retiring.

On Sept. 24, 1948, she married Spurlin “Dick” Nelson; he preceded her in death May 19, 2020.

Survivors include: two sons, Spurlin 'Dick' (Sherry) Nelson Jr. and Danny (Christy) Nelson all of Sikeston; one brother, Jimmy Grimes of Berger, Missouri; four sisters, Barbara Stinnett of Sikeston, Judy Mackey of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Mary Lou Welter of Sikeston, and Debra Martin of Nixa, Missouri; five grandchildren, Matt Nelson, Jon Nelson, Ben Nelson, Adam Nelson, and Blake Nelson; and seven great-grandchildren, Ally Nelson, Emaelee Nelson, Riley Nelson, Makayla Nelson, Dutch Nelson, Annellen June Nelson, and Cotton Paul Nelson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Grimes, Herman Grimes, and Bobby Grimes; and one sister, Wanda Mae Hargrove.

Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 2 from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Jon Nelson will officiate.

Interment services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be: Matt Nelson, Jon Nelson, Ben Nelson, Adam Nelson, Dick Nelson, and Danny Nelson.
