CHARLESTON, Mo. — Shirley Evelyn Hughes, age 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at her home in Charleston. She was born Feb. 9, 1946, at Kennett, Missouri, to the late Clarence Berry and Iva Evelyn Robertson Berry. She had lived in Charleston over for years where she operated Big Don’s Fireworks. CHARLESTON, Mo. — Shirley Evelyn Hughes, age 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at her home in Charleston.

She was born Feb. 9, 1946, at Kennett, Missouri, to the late Clarence Berry and Iva Evelyn Robertson Berry. She had lived in Charleston for years where she operated Big Don’s Fireworks. She loved crafts and wreath making of all types. She was of the Baptist belief.

On June 9, 1962, she married Bobby Lynn Hughes, who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2002.

Surviving is her son, Jeffrey (Sheila) Hughes of Charleston; her grandchildren, Amanda Rosson, Michael Baugh, Dylan Baugh, Jeffrey Hughes, Brandy Hughes, Christy Hughes, William O’Neal, Patrick O’Neal and Dustin Lynch; also, 11 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Evelyn Hughes Baugh; her great-granddaughter, Serenity Rose Hughes; also, her brothers and sisters, Johnny, Nub, Bub and Junior Ray, Marge Higgins and Peggy Fugue.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Graveside services will immediately follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston. The Rev. Robert J. Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
