PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Jerry Lindsey (Portageville) born in Cairo, Illinois, who passed away on Jan. 12, 2021, at the age of 67.
He was loved and cherished by many, including his wife of 47 years, Barbara; daughter, Amanda (Brandon); grandchildren; Jocelyn, Asher and Cameron; his brothers, Tillman (Susie) and Michael (Angie), brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tillman and Myrtle Lindsey (Cairo).
On Dec. 22, 1973, he married the love of his life, Barbara in Mounds, Illinois. He soon graduated college and started his 31-year career as an educator, spending most of those years in the Portageville School District In 1995, he surrendered to the call of ministry and became a bi-vocational pastor at the First Southern Baptist Church in Tallapoosa, Missouri, where he spent 23 years serving the Lord. He had been interim pastor at several churches and recently became the pastor at the Boekerton Baptist Church. He was employed by Family Facets for seven years and was able to help preserve and unify families together.
He was passionate about helping others. Much of his spare time was spent serving at local food banks and helping families in need. He enjoyed spending time with the youth at Tally and helping establish the “Chosen Generation” youth group. His first love was God, but he truly loved his family. He was seldom seen without his best friend and life companion, Barbie. He adored his daughter and cherished his grandchildren. He took many trips with them and spent many weekends being their No. 1 fan on the sports fields. He was the best Pappy ever! He loved them unconditionally, as he did us all.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at First Baptist Church, King Avenue, in Portageville, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021.
Burial will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Villa Ridge, Illinois, with DeLisle Funeral Home of Portageville in charge of arrangements.
