SIKESTON — David L. Hay, age 83, passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
He was born Nov. 23, 1937, in Paragould, Arkansas, son of the late Alfred and Mattie Powers Hay.
David was a member of First United Methodist Church; Order of the Eastern Star, where he had served as Worthy Patron and Grand Representative; Sikeston Masonic Lodge, York Right Mason; SEMO Shrine Club; and the Sikeston Elks Lodge.
He was a staff sergeant in the Missouri National Guard for 25 years; had managed the Graber Department Store in both Poplar Bluff and Tupelo, Mississippi; and had worked for Division of Employment Security in Sikeston before retiring.
On Dec. 22, 1960 in Tuckerman, Arkansas, he married Janice Pennington Hay who survives of the home in Sikeston.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jeffrey (Jackie) Hay and Brent (Amy) Hay all of Sikeston; one sister, Glenda Smoot; six grandchildren Jeffrey Hay Jr., Kathryn (Blake) Hurt, Elizabeth Hay, Andrew (Sara) McDowell, Austin Hay, and Alli Hay; and six great-grandchildren, Carter Hay, Mason Hurt, Zadie Hurt, Adalynn McDowell, Elliana McDowell and Decklyn McDowell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hay; and one sister, Linda Sue Koeingseder.
There will be graveside rites held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, on Monday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m.
