ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Evelyn Lucile Hodge, 80, passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2021.

Evelyn was born on Oct. 6, 1940, to Ralph Francis and Vivian Lucile Jackson Potashnick.

She grew up in Sikeston, Missouri, and graduated from Sikeston High School in 1958. She earned her Master of Arts/Teaching degree from Webster University in St. Louis. Evelyn worked in education, teaching, and making a positive impact in the lives of many children. Evelyn was a gifted pianist and enjoyed playing the flute. She loved to write poems that were personalized for her family and friends on their birthdays, anniversaries, and any special occasion.

Her greatest joys were her grandchildren: Samantha (Jeff) Hinkle, Sara (Kyle) Jefferson, Steven Toben, Matthew Hensley, William Ingmire, Jacob Ingmire, and her great-grandchildren; Jackson Small, Lewis Hinkle, and Aliyah Hensley. Lovingly known to them as their “Ma,” she enjoyed spending time with them reading, playing, and attending important events they participated in.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Rich) Ingmire, Deborah (Lee) Cunningham, brother, Sam (Janie) Potashnick, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Vivian Potashnick, and her two sisters, Francis Potashnick and Margaret Potashnick. 

Evelyn “Ma” will be remembered for her love of her family, smiles, laughter, and her kind and generous heart. She will be missed by all that loved her.

St. Louis Cremation was in charge of arrangements.
