BERTRAND, Mo. — Jerry Wayne Holland, 86, died Feb. 12, 2021, in Sikeston, Missouri.
Born Oct. 8, 1934, in East Prairie, Missouri, the second child of a set of fraternal twins to Carl Berry and Birdie (Holland) Gibbear, he worked at Del Farms, Knight’s Department Store, Barkett’s Grocery, McKinnie’s Grocery, Charles Todd/Aramark Uniform Company, and most recently he worked part-time as a bread deliverer for Lewis Bros. Co. He was a member of Bement Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer and deacon. He served at the Mississippi County Prison doing biblical ministry for 19 years and was at Gideon for over 10 years. He served his country as a Platoon Sergeant in the Army National Guard with the 1140th Engineer Battalion for 31 years.
At age 18, he met the love of his life, Betty Sue Harper of Bement, Missouri, who quickly became his wife two years later and they made their home in Charleston, Missouri, then later moved to their current residence in Bertrand.
Jerry leaves behind his wife, Betty Holland; his daughter, Cynthia Kay Floyd; three grandchildren, Heather (Chip) Schroeder of Evansville, Indiana, Brittni Cutlip of New Madrid, Missouri, and Ashli (Todd) Jenkins of Sikeston, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Megan Sutton, Lauren Wurdeman, Madyson Walker, Brianna Hillyard, Katelyn Schroeder, Madelyn Schroeder, and Allyson Schroeder; five great-great-grandchildren, Kendalyn Sutton, Emersyn Sutton, Jax Sutton, John Ellis Childers, and Teagan Sutton; and a host of many friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his mother, stepgrandfather, grandparents, two sisters, and one niece.
Visitation will be from noon until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Interment at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.
