Deaths still being reported as active cases continue to decline
While the number of active COVID-19 cases continue to decrease in Scott County, deaths are still being reported.
Two Scott County residents, both in their 80s, died due to the virus in the last week. The deaths make 82 that have died from COVID-19 in just over a year.
In the last year there have been 3,984 positive cases reported. On Monday, the Scott County Health Department reported 27 active cases, including 14 new cases in the last week, along with 31 recoveries. To date, there has been 3,875 recoveries.
On Friday, the New Madrid County Health Department reported only two active cases. There has been 2,075 confirmed cases since the pandemic began with 2,073 out of quarantine and 53 deaths reported.
On Monday, the Stoddard County Public Health Center reported 13 active COVID-19 cases while 3,034 have recovered. There has been 62 deaths.
Vaccine
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson announced the state will enter Phase 2 of its three-phase vaccination plan March 29.
This phase will extend vaccine eligibility to those working in areas accelerating economic recovery, have been disproportionately affected by the virus or are homeless.
The final phase will begin April 9 in which all Missourians will be eligible.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, 24.6% of Scott County have received their first dose of vaccine. Nearly 16,000 doses have been given to Scott County residents with 9,430 getting the first dose.

In Mississippi County, 22.6% of residents have received their first dose of vaccine. According to the state health department, 4,682 doses have been given to Mississippi County residents with 2,732 getting the first dose.
In New Madrid County, 16% of residents have received their first dose of the vaccine. According to the state health department, 4,543 doses have been given to residents with 2,732 receiving their first dose.
According to the New Madrid County Health Department, appointments are still available for COVID-19 shots and they will be taking appointments for people who live in and outside of New Madrid County. To schedule, call the health department at 573-748-5541.
In Stoddard County, 17.3% of the population have received their first dose of the vaccine with 8,027 total doses given. Of those, 5.022 residents have had the first dose administered.
