While the Sikeston Cinema Grill has been open since September, only a few new major movies have been released during the pandemic. But as summer approaches that is about to change.

The Sikeston Cinema Grill reopened on Sept. 3, 2020, but the blockbuster releases that the public flocks to have been put on hold. Only a few major films like “Tenet,” “Godzilla v. King Kong” and the recently released “Mortal Kombat,” have been released.

But as more and more of the country has received their COVID-19 vaccine, major films are expected to return to theaters this summer.

“The summer schedule is hot, kicking off on May 14 with “Spiral (from the “Saw” franchise),” said Karen Melton, vice president and director of marketing at Malco Theatres. “May 28 brings us “Cruella” and “A Quiet Place II,” followed by “In the Heights,” “F9” of the Fast and Furius saga, “Black Widow,” “Space Jam 2” and much more.”

Melton said the Sikeston Cinema Grill will continue to follow Cinema Safe guidelines with masks required within the building, contactless ticketing and redemption, socially-distanced seating and enhanced sanitation operations.

And there are more benefits for those who go to the theater. During the pandemic, Malco announced the company’s loyalty platform — Malco Marquee Rewards.

“The program extends the opportunity for loyal moviegoers to earn points on purchases for redemption toward tickets and concessions, as well as exclusive invitations to participate in member-only screenings and events,” Melton said.

But as pandemic fears weigh less and less on moviegoers, the urge to return to theaters is returning.

“There is a pent up demand from moviegoers who want to finally get off the couch and go to the movies,” Melton said. “Movies can be watched at home, but the true cinematic experience is in the theater.”
